Taking a Break

Posted in News on October 7th, 2009

For those of you who got here by going through my old Photo Traditions website; welcome. This was going to be the new portal for my photography business, which I had renamed Merle Hamburger Photography.

If you have been coming to this website from time to time, you will likely have noticed that I haven’t updated it in a while. Since being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, I have stayed away from booking my own weddings for fear that I would book a wedding and then not be able to fulfill my committment to my clients because of health reasons.

I thought I had found an answer in a company that hires local photographers to shoot weddings they book. The pay was not great, but it would have given me opportunities to do more wedding photography, which I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, I received news that my photography was not sufficient developed to shoot weddings for this larger company (though, the review said I was close).

Truth be told, I have not been doing much at all with my business for the last couple of years because of health reasons, so this is, for all intents and purposes, simply stating the obvious — for the time being, I’m taking a break from the photography business. If something comes along, we’ll see. For the time being, thank you for checking out my site. Maybe I’ll feel differently later.

Regards,

Merle

Kristen & Dan’s Wedding (4/12/2008)

Posted in Weddings on April 17th, 2008

I had the pleasure of photographing Kristen and Dan’s wedding at the Buckhead Club at Atlanta Financial Center. Both Kristen and Dan were great to photograph and seemed to have a wonderfully celebrated wedding day.

Kristen & Dan's Wedding ProgramP

A photograph of Kristen & Dan’s program, showing the fabulous view from the 18th floor of the Atlanta Financial Center.

Groom formal

The groom and his groomsmen were willing to try a variety of different locations for formals. The circular stairway at the Atlanta Financial Center offered an interesting photographic opportunity.

Dan & Nephew

As an elementary school teacher, Dan was GREAT with the kids at the wedding. Here Dan and his nephew (who was also the ring bearer) share a hug.

Flower Girl

The flower girl was too cute and took early control of watching Kristen’s bridal bouquet!

First Kiss

Elevator ride after formals

After the formals with the bridal party, everyone crowded into the elevator for the ride from the 18th floor to the reception in the Financial Center Atrium.

Bride and bridesmaids with flowers

The florist did a fabulous job incorporating the green apple color throughout the bridal and bridesmaid’s bouquets.

Relaxing before the reception

Kristen and Dan relax prior to being introduced to the crowd at the reception.

Best man toast

Dan’s brother was his best man and told several amusing stories about Dan growing up (including how KKristen came into Dan’s life).

Kristen getting down...

Everyone that came out to celebrate Kristen and Dan’s wedding were ready, willing, and able to get down and party. In fact, once in full swing, the dancing lasted well beyond 11pm. These folks new how to rock.
